Pascon completes 12MW storage project adopted by SSE
Background
The client required the design, installation and commissioning of a 12MW battery storage facility, metered at 33kV, at a site near to Swindon, Wiltshire. The project’s balance of plant included installing multiple switchboards and two 110V battery chargers, the project also required connection to a primary substation located more than 1km from the site.
Solution
Pascon created a containerised dual substation solution for this project. This incorporated two separate three-panel switchboards, one for SSE and the second for the client metered separately. Three additional control panels and two 110V battery chargers were installed. The company excavated and laid 1,250m of fibre cable to connect the new facility to an existing primary substation at Swindon. The project was completed, and the facility was energised by the start of September 2023.
Pascon’s Ash Nixon commented: “There were a few challenges to contend with on such a complex project, but the team worked hard to complete the work to our usual high standard. We’re delighted that the project has been successfully energised.”
Benefit
Through its contract with SSE, the client has access to a 12MW battery storage facility, which is metered at 33kV. This provides two 110V battery chargers through a remote containerised substation situated more than 1km from the previous closest high-powered electrical supply.
